What’s in store for the year on the dog ?

It’s going to be a tough year, so they say. However, in every crisis there are always opportunities.

So here are my top 7 practical and simple things that you can do to increase your wealth in a downturn economy.

  1. Run a part-time business during your spare time

This is not MLM or some kind of Internet scam. But you can ‘sell’ someone else’ products or services for a commission. Look for opportunities to be an ‘agent’, ‘reseller’ or ‘referrer’ to someone else’ business and add it to your portfolio of products.

  1. Sell things over the Internet

The Internet is a great, if yet fully untapped, channel. It cheap to set-up, does not require you to rent a shop or spend money on renovations. You only need a computer, internet connection and off-you go. There’s a whole lot of free websites out there that you can get you started.

  1. Offer to teach or do research

If you are the ‘expert’ in your field, then lots of people out there are willing to pay to learn from you. You can do it ‘live’ or on the Internet by just creating a blog. Be a teacher, mentor or just a good resource for people who need your kind of knowledge.

  1. Acquire new skills

Start learning new skills. This is also wealth. Wealth of knowledge. What new skills? Try a new language or learn how to set-up a website or bookkeeping. With these new skills, you can SAVE money by not hiring other people to do it for you.

  1. Increase your network

This is the time to make new friends. Don’t just mix with people that you already know. Why not join the on-line ‘social networking group’, like Facebook. This is also a great platform to re-connect with you old school or work mates. Who knows, they may be they key to your next opportunities.

  1. Longer opening hours…

Start business earlier. Close later. Operate during weekends and holidays. No, you don’t have to be physically there; just make sure that your business is electronically connected via e-mails, sms or your website. Yes, let other enjoy, you be the ox and work harder and longer than your competitor.

  1. Create new ideas in writing

Yes, start blogging your ideas. Who knows what can come out of that spark and perhaps there may be people out there who is just waiting to collaborate with you.

Try them and you never know where it will take you. Good luck!
